Principal's Message

February is a great month to be an Aztec!  As always, there are many interesting things happening on campus.  Yesterday our students had the honor of talking to an Astronaut live from the International Space Station.  Col. Cady Coleman answered questions from our students via amateur radio.  This is a very rare privilege for any school but this week, only four schools in the world had the opportunity and we were one of them!  The other schools were in Canada, Germany and France.  To prepare for this event, Adobe Bluffs students learned about the International Space Station and wireless radio.  All classes were encouraged to write questions for the astronauts, and twenty questions were selected and asked by the students who wrote them.

I am extremely proud of all of our Adobe Bluffs students! They all showed awesome character during our assembly by sitting quietly and listening to the student’s questions and the answers from Col. Coleman.  In attendance were PUSD Board Members and lots of local press including Artie Ojeda from NBC 7/39 who, on Wednesday, aired a short interview on one of our students leading up to the contact and covered the story on yesterday’s newscast.  Also in attendance were press from KPBS, the Union Tribune and the North County Times.  This was a thrilling and unforgettable experience for all of us: students, teachers, parents and staff.  In response to one question, Col.  Coleman told our students, “it’s up to you to do your best in school and be ready for the future.”  I hope this experience has inspired our students to set high goals and work toward achieving their dreams.

The Aztec Reading Program began on February 1st and continues through March 31st. This program promotes our focus on literacy by encouraging kids to read each night.  We want to find out how many books our students can read in two months.  The tallies will be posted on campus and updated each week.  I’d like every student in the school to participate, so please encourage your student(s) to read each night.  Becoming a proficient reader is a very important step on the road to college readiness.

The Author’s Faire will be held on February 9th with award winning author Margo Sorenson.  She will do three assemblies to highlight books for the different age groups.  This should be another exciting time for our kids.

Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” – Margaret Fuller

Student Council News

For the month of February, Student Council will be sponsoring the Pasta for Pennies Program at Adobe Bluffs. This program raises money for patients who are suffering from blood-related cancers. The classroom that raises the most money will receive a pasta party from our local Olive Garden Restaurant.

We had a tie for our last spirit day, which was Backwards Day. Both Mrs. Belong's and Mrs. Marks' classes each had 100% participation. Due to the tie, both classes will have the spirit trophy for a two-week period.

2011-2012 PUSD Preschool Registration - February 1 - March 11, 2011

The first step to enroll in a PUSD Preschool is to complete the “Interest Survey” form (for all classes). “Interest Survey” forms for 2011-2012 will be accepted February 1 – March 11, 2011. The form is available and can be completed online at the PUSD preschool registration page.
