Principal's Message

It feels like it was only yesterday that I wrote the welcome back to school article, and now it is time for the end of year wrap up.  We have had a great year up to this point, and May promises to be an exciting month full of many wonderful events.  Our students have completed their STAR Testing and I’m sure their hard will be reflected in their scores.  Next they will be taking their MAP testing over the next few weeks.

Science Day is Friday, May 7th.  It is one of the days our students really look forward to all year. We have lots of community members who are ready to share their science related careers in interesting presentations for our kids.  This article goes to print just before the event, but I am certain it will be as great as it has been in the past.

Last week we had a visit from Spellman Magic and saw his character assembly.  He will do a family show on May 14th.  Everyone is encouraged to come out and bring blankets, beach chairs and a picnic dinner for your family. It will be held outside and it promises to be a memorable evening.

We know Adobe Bluffs students are very talented.  We will get to see some of those talents on May 20th, at the Spring Band Concert.  The 5th graders have been working hard all year, and this is the night they get to shine.  Many of our other talented students will be performing at the “Variety Show” on May 21st you don’t want to miss it.

I wanted to give a special thanks to the families who donated to our shade structure memorial fund for Anthony DeWeese.  Thanks to your generosity, we have $2,395 to use toward the project. We plan to have trees and benches in a park like setting.  Some of the work is underway, and we hope to have it completed this summer.

As we wind down the school year, I want to remind everyone of the importance of being on time for school, and working hard until the final bell on the last day.  On May 27th, we will have our final Thursday sing and at that time we will have the drawing for two new bicycles for students with “no tardies.”  With all of the great events we have planned, May will be a fun time at Adobe Bluffs.

With Aztec Pride,

Mark Atkins

Student Council

Our Earth Day Celebration was a huge success. Many students brought a recyclable can to school, picked up trash at recess, and walked to school that day. Students earned stickers for each event they participated in. A bookmark was given to each student who collected all three stickers.

Our Student Council voted to donate $250 towards our shade area memorial for Adobe Bluffs student, Anthony Deweese. Anthony was one of our Room Representatives and brought much enthusiasm to our meetings.

Spring Scholastic Book Fair – May 17-21, 2010

It’s time to celebrate books and reading with our PTA sponsored Spring Scholastic Book Fair. This spring we will be having a BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) Book fair!!!   We hope you will come and take this opportunity to support literacy and get some great books for summer reading!

Children will visit the fair with their class. They may bring money to purchase books or fill out a wish list to bring home. Teachers will also have wish lists at the fair so that parents who are interested in giving a teacher a book will be able to look at a list and avoid duplication. Another option is a book gift certificate that allows the teacher to pick out their own book for the class.

Back by popular demand will be the poster drawing at the end of the book fair week.  Parent letters, book fair flyers and the ticket for the poster drawing will be coming home in early May!

PUSD Integrated Preschool Opportunity

Poway Unified School District is pleased to offer for the 2010-2011 school year, Integrated Preschool Programs at Pomerado Elementary and Deer Canyon Elementary schools. They will serve 3 to 5 year old children with and without special needs. A general education developmental curriculum will include both large and small group circle time, play, and language activities. Other skills and activities that are introduced are music and rhythm, self help skills, thinking skills, language arts, social skills, number concepts, gross and fine motor skills. The children who have special needs may experience difficulty in one or more of the following areas:  speech and language, play skills, and social skills. The success of the integrated program greatly depends on the inclusion of children without special needs who act as models as all children learn together.

All children in the preschool programs will work as an integrated group.  They will have opportunities to work and play together in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding.  The curriculum is play-based, which means that children are encouraged to play together in a way that leads to growth and development.

Our preschool staff will meet with you and arrange a class visitation and provide information about enrollment.

  • Class Time:  M-F, 5 hours per day  (Alternate times will be considered)

  • Options: 3 and 5 day options available.

  • Cost:  Five day program is $310 a month.  Prorated rates are available for other options.  There is also a one time, non-refundable $50 registration fee.

Currently, there are openings available and registration will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.  If interested, please contact Barbie Shrier at 858-668-2746.
