President's Message

Recently, I’ve received some questions regarding the cost of PTA Membership and why Adobe Bluffs PTA has to pay $4.60 of each $10.00 membership collected to the higher levels of PTA (Palomar Council PTA, Ninth District PTA, State PTA, National PTA).  If you are a member of Adobe Bluffs PTA, you are also a member of each of the above PTA’s.  The main reason we have to forward them a portion of your membership dues is because these PTA’s do not actively fundraise.  They rely on us to provide them with most of the money they need to advocate for our children.

For more than a century, PTA has reminded our nation of its obligations to children and provided resources and important information to parents and teachers.  Whenever young people’s education, health, safety, or well-being were threatened, PTA members were and are on the forefront of working to resolve those challenges.  PTA has been instrumental in the passage of important laws and guidelines that we sometimes take for granted today, such as:

  • Creating a separate criminal justice system for juvenile offenders

  • Enforcing child labor laws

  • Building Kindergarten into the public school system

  • Supplying federally funded hot-lunches — that feed more than 26 million children a day.

  • Supporting school bus safety regulations

  • Creating the content-rating system for television programs — yes, PTA supported the creation of that ratings indicator you now see in the upper-left corner of your TV screen.

Many of these concerns may not have been addressed if PTA members did not take up the cause!  If you have become a PTA member, thank you!  If you have not, it’s never too late to join and show your support.  Forms are available in the school office and on the Adobe Bluffs PTA website.

It's Time to Have Fun and Run - Mileage Club begins Monday, October 5th

The Adobe Bluffs Mileage Club is a program run and created by volunteers to increase students’ readiness to learn, help reduce playground hassles and to help fight obesity.  The AB Mileage Club is a PTA sponsored program made possible from your generous donations to the Hassle Free program.

Our first day of running will be on Monday, October 5th. Mileage Club takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, weather permitting.  Students may run/walk our track during their lunch recess and can begin and stop at any time.

Students can earn toe tokens, mile tokens, chain necklaces, school supplies, and playground equipment but most of all they will gain a sense of accomplishment and a healthy lifestyle.  Prizes are awarded starting at 25 miles.

If you are interested in volunteering for this wonderful program please contact Nicole Sanseverino at nsansev@san.rr.com or 538-2200.  Volunteers arrive at 11:25am and leave at 12:30pm and may volunteer as little as once per month.

A big thank you goes out to our current volunteers who helped make this program a huge success.  Let’s have fun and run!

Red Ribbon Week October 19-23 "Show Good Character by Being Drug Free"

“Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena.” (US Drug Enforcement Administration)

For parents, read more about underage drinking statistics and what kids ages 9-13 say about tobacco. Flyers will be sent home on October 9th with a schedule of school-wide activities for the week.

For AB students, have you read a good book lately?  Would you like to share it with your fellow students?  On the last day of Red Ribbon Week, Friday, October 23 we are having a book drive to benefit the AB library.  Please bring only one book.  Donations will be collected at lunch.

Do you want to be part of Red Ribbon Week?

Come to the Red Ribbon Week "Prep Party" - Wed. Oct 14, 1-2pm in the MPR.  We will be assembling posters, painting signs, packaging materials, and cutting ribbons; no art experience required.

Other volunteer opportunities are available during Red Ribbon Week.  See the Red Ribbon Week flyer coming home next week or contact PTA Red Ribbon Week Chair, Jennifer Good at jgoodcause@yahoo.com

PTA Reflections 2009 "Beauty is..."

Did you receive your PTA Reflections packet? The annual Adobe Bluffs PTA Reflections program is looking for some Aztecs to get in touch with their inner artist. This year the theme of the PTA Reflections program is “Beauty is…..” Where do you find beauty??? How can you share it with others? Get those creative juices flowing… Express what beauty is in whatever form inspires you!! Visual artists and photographers- capture a beautiful moment  in time. Creative writers tell us what beauty is. Musicians can compose an original tune as a celebration of beauty in music. Dancers and choreographers express themselves by striking poses and using movement to express the beauty in the world around them. Or direct a short film/play to show us what “Beauty is….”

The Reflections deadline is Friday October 23! Entries can be turned into the office. A limited amount of applications and rules can be found in the office. For complete rules, entry forms and previous Reflections winners check out the California PTA website or the Palomar Council website. Any other questions, contact AB PTA Reflections Chair, Jennifer Wright, wrijensd@yahoo.com, 858 484 -1496

Ball Room Needs Your Help

The AB PTA is looking for a few volunteers to rotate during lunch recess  on Tues. and Thurs. (except when raining.)  If you are interested in giving about an hour of time (11:25-12:15) to make our wonderful Adobe Bluffs kids happy, we could use your help.  The job is EASY and the reward is seeing the kids’ smiles.  What ever time you could give would be awesome...first Tues., every other Thurs.., you decide.

Please consider helping.  I know I won't be able to be there EVERY Tues/Thurs and the kids really, really get excited to use the equipment.  Especially the non-sports kids, they love the board games!  Please contact Jaime Kaesbauer at jaime_kaesbauer@hotmail.com. I will explain details further to those interested.
