President's Message - November...a month of giving back to the community

The Month of November will be a very busy month around Adobe Bluffs.  I would like to thank our AB community for all the work that has been done so far and will be continuing this month to help out two great causes.

First off is the Adobe Bluffs Giving Tree.  Every year, Adobe Bluffs adopts families in need from within the Poway School District and, every year, the Adobe Bluffs community contributes to the success of this program with its warm heart and generosity. Keep your eyes out throughout November for our bountiful Adopt-a-Family Giving Trees around campus. Pick a donation apple, purchase the specified item, and turn it in before November 30th. All items will be distributed to recipient families before winter break. Try to involve your children in this project as much as possible.  It is a wonderful opportunity to teach them about the importance of helping others in need.

Second, Adobe Bluffs Student Council will be collecting donations for “Lift the Spirits”, a community project organized by Tanya Vorachak whose sister and brother-in-law are both currently serving in Afghanistan leaving their six year old daughter in Ms. Vorachak’s care. Knowing first hand how difficult life is in Afghanistan, Ms. Vorachak came up with the idea to support our service men and women by sending care packages and letters of encouragement.  Items needed for the care packages are lotions, sun screens, lip balms, note books with 200+ pages, pens and letters to the troops. (For privacy and safety purposes, please do not include your personal information in the letters – you may sign the letters with just your first name or Adobe Bluffs Elementary School.)  A collection box will be located outside the office beginning November 8th.  The deadline for donations is November 19th.  Thank you to our Student Council for taking on such an important task!

I wish you all a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving Break.

Sincerely,

Krissa Jensen, PTA President 2010-2011

Student Council

This month was very busy and exciting for the Adobe Bluffs’ Student Council.  All of the officers and room representatives came to our first meeting. At the meeting, we talked about how it would work in future times, the responsibilities that we have, and the room representatives were assigned their buddy classrooms. Representatives were asked to ask their buddy classrooms about new ideas for spirit days.  We also talked about the sound system that we are saving up for and ways to fundraise.

PTA Association Meeting and Election of Nominating Committee – 6:30pm, Thursday, November 18, 2010

All parents are warmly invited and encouraged to attend our next Adobe Bluffs PTA Association Meeting on Thursday, November 18th at 6:30pm in the Multipurpose Room.  This is your opportunity to come and learn about the many different ways the PTA works together with the Adobe Bluffs staff and community to further enrich your children’s educational experience.  This is also your chance to ask questions and give us constructive feedback regarding any aspect of the PTA.

In addition, at this meeting we will be electing the Nominating Committee.  This important group will be responsible for finding qualified candidates for the 2011-12 PTA Board.  For more information about PTA Board Member job descriptions visit the AB PTA website or the CA PTA website for more details.  If you are interested in being a member of the Nominating Committee or are interested in discussing a PTA Board position, please feel free to contact me.

I hope you can make it!
