Principal's Message

I can hardly believe that December is here already.  The upcoming winter holiday is truly a wonderful time of year for families.  I am so proud that Adobe Bluffs participated in "The Giving Tree" program that will help five needy PUSD families have a better holiday season.  Many AB families also donated to our student council sponsored “Toys for Tots” drive.  The spirit of giving is alive and well at Adobe Bluffs.

At Adobe Bluffs we have much to be thankful for. We have kind, talented and hard working students.  Our parents are supportive, our teachers are dedicated and our school is thriving because of the role each of us is playing.  Everyone has a positive can do attitude and it is part of what makes Adobe Bluffs a great school.

Although this is a festive time, we appreciate your support in keeping our students focused on learning.  I encourage all families to work with their students at home over the winter break.  I know that many students would love to take the two weeks off, but the benefits of reading each day can never be over estimated.  Give students a challenge to learn something new over the break and tell you all about it.  This will help keep students occupied, engaged in learning and support their overall academic success.  I would also encourage placing limits on television and video game time.  What ever happened to playing outside?  One of the recommendations from the Governor’s fitness challenge is to exercise for at least 60 minutes each day.  You also have the option of having students work on math and language arts with the free, online Study Island program over the break. Students all know their login and password.

Once again, best wishes during the holiday season.

With Aztec Pride,

Mark Atkins

Hello Adobe Bluffs Aztec Runners and Families!

Sun Safety

The Adobe Bluffs Foundation is attempting to educate children about the potentially harmful effects of the sun.  We are researching curriculum to help teach students about sun exposure.

This is the fourth of our series of tips outlined by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), to protect against the potentially damaging effects of the sun.

Tip #4:  Get vitamin D safely

This can be achieved through a healthy diet that may include vitamin supplements. Don't seek the sun. Many of us are tempted in the winter, to soak up whatever rays are available.  Please remember that even winter sun is potentially harmful.

This tip and others are located at the AAD's website.
