| | President's Message
We are well into January and your Adobe Bluffs PTA has so many great programs and activities in store for our students in 2011! Tomorrow is our annual Winter Jamboree. If you are new to Adobe Bluffs, this is one of the highlights of the school year for our families. The kids have an awesome time and it provides the perfect opportunity for parents to meet, mingle and get to know each other a little better. Best of all, it is four hours of entertainment that wont break the bank! We look forward to seeing you and your children tomorrow, Saturday, January 22nd between 11am and 3pm.
Our students have lots in store for them as we move into February. First off will be the chance for Adobe Bluffs students to interact with astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as it passes over San Diego. Our students have been learning about life in space and have prepared questions for the astronauts during this brief but unforgettable opportunity. Who knows? Maybe it will be the catalyst that inspires one or more of our young students to work towards a career in space!
PTA will be bringing in author Margo Sorenson for our annual Author’s Faire on February 9. Ms. Sorenson is a prolific author of children’s books for all ages. Our students will have an opportunity to read and learn about these stories and the process involved in authoring both fiction and non-fiction works.
February will also mark the beginning of Adobe Bluffs’ first Aztec Reader’s Club, which will run until April 1st. Students in all grade levels will be encouraged to read and log as many level appropriate books as possible and the school’s overall progress will be tracked on a huge thermometer.
These and so many other upcoming programs are the perfect reasons to join PTA and/or contribute to our Hassle Free fund (for those of you who have not already done so). You will see a Membership/Hassle Free flyer come home soon. Please sign and return to your child’s classroom by Feb 11th. The class with the highest percentage of returned forms will win the Ultimate Ice Cream Party. This is our final push of the school year to increase our Membership and raise the funds necessary to provide the many enhanced school experiences our students and families have come to expect. Statistics show that students do better in school when their parents are PTA members. Your involvement in PTA gives you the opportunity to stay on top of your child’s learning experience and the issues facing education, locally, statewide and nationally. Your Hassle Free donation helps your Adobe Bluffs PTA continue to deliver superior programs that enrich your student’s experience at AB. Sincerely, Krissa Jensen, PTA President 2010-2011

Free Household Toxin Seminar – 9am, Saturday, January 22, 2011 13242 Pomerado Road, Poway
There will be a free informational seminar about preventable environmental toxin exposure on Saturday, January 22 at 9am. We’ll explore the many ways we can positively impact indoor air quality, including a variety of alternatives to toxic products most of us unwittingly use in our homes and schools. The products we will feature are readily available in local stores and online; we’ll compare them and assist attendees in deciphering what makes a product “safe.”
If you can't attend the seminar, please take three-and-a-half minutes to watch the this video and begin to educate yourself on the hidden dangers lurking in our homes and schools or visit the US government's EPA website for a great deal of helpful information.
For additional information about the seminar, call Jennifer Walavalkar, Event Coordinator at (858) 679-3443.

Aztec Reader's Club - February 2 - April 1, 2011
Adobe Bluffs Families, I am happy to announce the PTA sponsored Aztec Reader’s Club which will start on February 2 - April 1, 2011. This will run concurrently with the 4th Grade Reading Olympics and the 5th Grade annual reading program which starts on February 10. The Aztec Reader’s Club will encourage all students who want to participate to keep track of all teacher approved books that they read on their own time.
Your child’s teacher will be sending home a tracking sheet with the guidelines for what an approved book is. Every Friday throughout the program, the tracking sheet will be turned into the teacher so the Aztec Readers Volunteers can update the Thermometer that will be outside the MPR where the kids can track the progress school wide. At the end of the program we will have a celebration so the students can be recognized for all their efforts. If you have any questions please contact Michele Kelly, Aztec Reader’s Club Chair. back to top
