| | President's Message As I complete my fourth term as PTA President and I sit down to write my final President’s Message, I have been able to reflect on all of the wonderful experiences I’ve had over the past six years (it seems like only yesterday that my daughter Alexis was a Kindergartener in Mrs. Bollish’s class). I have had the privilege of getting to know scores of your extraordinary kids, our incredible teachers and staff, and countless caring and tireless parents, many of whom I now consider dear friends. And throughout, I’ve come to learn that it truly does take a village to raise a child. Whether it is a parent, the school secretary, a school teacher, a coach, a friend’s parent, a troop leader, or any other adult role model that has an impact on a child, we must all work together to make that impact a positive one and to set the right example for them to follow. I have been very fortunate to witness many instances of this at our amazing school and around our great community!
I’d like to thank our Principal, Mr. Atkins, the teachers, and all of the school staff for their support and dedication to our kids. I’d also like to thank the PTA Board, all of the chairpersons, and all of the many volunteers for their unwavering determination and devotion to our children through PTA and elsewhere. Finally, I’d like to say a special thank you to my wife, Julie Poehnelt. Julie has unconditionally supported my volunteer efforts throughout my term as PTA President and has thanked me many times for doing what I do. Well, without her support, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do the things I do. Thank you, Julie!!
As we wrap up the end of the 2009-2010 school year, I want to say congratulations to everyone for making it a great year (good luck 5th graders!)! Have a safe, relaxing, fun, and adventurous summer!
Sincerely, Ron Cole PTA President

Principal's Message Dear Parents, It feels like only yesterday that I was writing the welcome message for the 2009-2010 school year. This year has gone by so quickly! Thank you all for your help this year. Strong parental and community support is the key to having successful programs and students. Adobe Bluffs parents and community members have volunteered for over 10, 300 hours this year. The hours you have spent on campus, assisting in classrooms, on playgrounds, with group projects, and supporting events have helped our students tremendously. For those who could not volunteer at school, thank you for the hours you spent helping your student with homework, encouraging academic and social growth and supporting your child’s school experience. Please continue the good work that has been done this year during summer vacation. Encourage your student to read, write and think. The “Study Island” program is available for students to work on all summer. This is a good way to have them keep their math and reading skills sharp over the break. Allow time for play and unstructured fun as well as organized activity. Talk with your children while traveling from place to place and you will be amazed at what they know and think. With Aztec Pride, Mark Atkins back to top | |
| PTA Program Chair positions NEEDED for the 2010-11 School Year - Adobe Bluffs PTA Needs Your Help! Dear Parents, Volunteers are a HUGE part of the Adobe Bluffs community with over 10,000 hours donated over the 2009-10 school year! That’s amazing and goes to show that volunteerism and community are alive and well at Adobe Bluffs. However, with many 5th grade families leaving Adobe Bluffs in a few days we have some big volunteer gaps to fill for our 2010-11 school year. The Adobe Bluffs PTA needs your help! If you would like to take your volunteer experience a step further please take a look at the Chairperson positions currently available. If you have an interest but are not sure you can fully commit the time, find a friend who has a similar interest in the program to be a co-chair! Unfortunately, if we do not have willing Chairpersons to organize these programs they will be eliminated. Please look through the Open Program Chairs list at the end of this newsletter. If you think you have an interest in taking on a Chairperson position or you would like more information please contact me as soon as possible. Thanks so much for all that you do for Adobe Bluffs Elementary! Sincerely, Krissa Jensen ABES PTA President-elect 2010-11 back to top PUSD Early Registration for 2010-2011 school year – June 1-18, 2010

Thank you for supporting the Scholastic Spring Book Fair
The PTA sponsored BOGO (Buy One Get One) Scholastic Spring Book Fair was a huge success! It allowed the children to get so many more books for summer reading at a great price! I was so happy to see that many of you were able to come out and take advantage of this great opportunity. In addition, the book fair couldn’t have happened without the support of so many volunteer parents and staff…you know who you are! Volunteers helped run the actual book fair, sold goodies on Thursday night, helped set up and clean up… you name it there were always volunteers ready and willing to help. Many of you volunteered above and beyond, so thank you! Have a great summer and enjoy reading! The fall book fair is just around the corner in November! Science Day 2010 This year's 6th Annual Science Day was a tremendous success. We had 11 Community Presenters in the afternoon, most of them parents of students here at ABES. I would like to thank them and the volunteers that helped me behind the scenes to make it a smooth day. Special thanks to Lisa Erickson and Papa Johns Pizza for providing pizza for lunch. This is a day anticipated by students and staff alike and I so appreciate everyone's help in making it a reality.

AB PTA Book Exchange - save your books and quarters for next year
There were literary treasures to be found at the Spring Book Exchange for those who searched among the more than 25 boxes of books. Treasures like a complete set of The Chronicles of Narnia, series books like Magic Tree House, Harry Potter, Diary of the Wimpy Kid and Junie B. Jones, dozens of picture books, and even books for parents’ beach reading were found by lucky readers.
Everybody at Adobe Bluffs benefitted from the book exchange. Books sold for a quarter each earned our AB PTA $117. AB teachers and Mrs. Lingner, chose books to add to their libraries. Any left over books were offered to The Polinsky Children’s Center and the local library. back to top

AB Educational Foundation
Thank You! The AB Educational Foundation thanks all donors, volunteers and sponsors for everything that you contributed this school year. Your donations and Run2Play contributions enabled the AB Foundation to pay the salary for the PE teacher, Impact Teacher and Computer Resource Aide. Money donated to the AB Foundation was also used to purchase shade trees for the playground area, purchase technology for use in the classrooms, and maintain the running track. Thank you for supporting the AB Educational Foundation.
