Traffic Circle

Parents driving students to and from school should follow the procedures of the traffic circle, as well as state law.  Please abide by the directions of our wonderful volunteers and staff.   They are working hard to ensure safety of our children.  Cars in the traffic circle should never be left unattended at any time.

President's Message

My name is Ron Cole and I am the PTA President for the 2009-2010 school year.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is now raring to go to help make this next school year a great one for our kids!

This year I plan to dedicate a portion of my newsletter messages to educating parents about PTA.  I’d like to start by sharing with you, straight out of our bylaws, what the purposes of our PTA are (in common with the purposes of the National PTA and the California State PTA):

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community and place of
worship. To raise the standards of home life.
  •  To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.

To learn more about our PTA feel free to contact me or go to www.adobebluffspta.org

Have a wonderful year!  Go Aztecs!

Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! I am looking forward to a great year as principal of our smaller school. As of today we are expecting to open with 370 students, down from about 450 last year.  In 2007 we were a large school of 690 students, and last year we saw how having a smaller school positively impacted many aspects of our daily routine including the traffic circle, hallway traffic, library and computer lab time and the general sense of peace and calmness on campus. We look forward to the benefits a small school has for students.

I want to remind everyone of the importance of arriving to school on time.  We will have the same bell schedule and will begin class at 7:45 am. We will have adult supervision on campus beginning at 7:25 each morning. Children are not allowed on campus before 7:25am.  If you need to morning childcare, please sign your child up for the ESS program, which now has programs for parents who only need morning childcare.  Their number is (858) 538-2672.

The Adobe Bluffs webpage has been redesigned and is easier to navigate and is full of useful information. You can find the answers to almost any question about our school. Please take a few minutes to visit it at: http://www.powayusd.com/pusdabes/

I encourage all parents to get involved with PTA and or AB Foundation. Our parents support has been tremendous and has allowed us to have programs and opportunities for students in spite of our poor budget.  Volunteering in the classroom or on campus helps more than you can imagine.  Even if you only have an hour or two, please sign up.  We appreciate your help.

We have many great things to look forward to this year! I believe we have everything we need to be successful.  We have awesome students, dedicated staff members and great volunteers.

Let’s have a great year!

 "Hassle Free" Fundraising

Hello Adobe Bluffs Families! Once again Adobe Bluffs PTA is offering “Hassle-Free” as its primary fundraising event. This is a quick and easy way to raise funds without having our children be ‘door to door’ sales reps.

We all know that over the past couple of years Adobe Bluffs has taken a big financial hit due to lowering student enrollment and State budget cuts. This makes it more important than ever before to ask every family to step up and support the enrichment of our children’s education at Adobe Bluffs. We recognize that times are lean and we have all been hit by the current economic downturn but we urge you to please make this one-time tax deductible donation.  Your donation to PTA will help support many of the existing PTA programs which have become a beloved tradition by students and their families at Adobe Bluffs including: AB Games, Winter Jamboree, Mileage Club, Art Show and Arts Attack, Dad’s Lunch, Science Day, Celebrate Diversity Day, plus many more!

Your donation of $60 per child helps to ensure that our children’s education is not just ‘ok’ but enriched by these programs!  Of course, if a $60 donation is more than your family can manage at this time we understand and welcome a donation of any amount. Many companies will match your contributions dollar for dollar so be sure to check with your employer.

Please remember that without your donations many of the programs PTA supports become too costly and unfortunately are lost in educational budget cuts.  We urge you to consider contributing to help keep the Adobe Bluffs spirit strong and vibrant!

Look for the “Hassle-Free” section on the Adobe Bluffs PTA Order Form which came home in your child’s First Day Packet.  Thank-you for your continued support of Adobe Bluffs PTA! If you have any questions, please contact me at krissa.jensen@sbcglobal.net.

Krissa Jensen, PTA Executive Vice-President

 PTA Reflections - "Beauty Is..."

The ABES PTA wants to invite Adobe Bluff Aztecs to tap into their natural creativity by participating in Reflections. Reflections is a wonderful arts recognition program sponsored by the National PTA and California PTA. Each year students can choose to create an original piece of art, music, photography, writing, video, or choreography to express their interpretation of the theme, “Beauty Is…“.  Come on Adobe Bluffers-- Express yourself!

Official entry forms and rules sheets for the categories your student participates in will be sent home and will also be available in the office beginning in September.  It is essential that each piece have a completed Official Entry Form, signed by student and a parent/guardian. The Reflections program is sponsored by the national PTA, and the top entries from ABES will be sent to the 9th District level to represent our school. Potentially, an Adobe Bluffs entry could reach the state or national level! Last year, over 55 students participated in Reflections. Out of the top 24 finalists, 2 students went on to compete at the 9th District level, receiving Awards of Merit, and 5 others received Honorable Mentions.

The goal of Reflections is participation, not winning. Every child who enters will receive a certificate and ribbon and be invited to a Reflections Art Reception in November. So parents, please encourage your children to channel their creativity, for their own satisfaction, and for others to enjoy- Come on, join the fun and get those creative juices flowing!
