Principal's Message

The school year is off to a great start! We have 411 students enrolled this year.  Even with the budget challenges we face, our staff has a positive outlook for the school year.  All classrooms began the year by reviewing the expectations for following the Aztec Pledge and Adobe Bluffs Code of Conduct. I strongly encourage all families to carefully review the Student Handbook, which is located on the Adobe Bluffs website.

Each year our students set academic goals, and work toward achieving them.  The hard work done last year is evident in our increasing Academic Performance Index Score or API released this week. We are proud to say we posted a 22 point increase over last year. Our score increased to 934.  This is our biggest increase in recent years, and is truly something to celebrate!

Thanks to the hard work and support of the Foundation, all classes opened the year with docu-cameras.  These cameras have been added to classrooms over the past two years.  They allow the teachers and students to place their papers or books under the camera and have it projected onto the screen to share with others.  This is a very effective teaching and learning tool, and students and teachers enjoy having them.

Our focus is on Literacy this year.  In keeping with the theme, our PTA sponsored a Teacher and Parent Literacy and Homework Forum.  Mrs. O’Connor, Mrs. Baird, Mrs. Mulligan and Mrs. Bennett gave a presentation that was very informative.  We hope to have more of these forums in the near future.  I encourage you to get to know our school. Feel free to visit our classrooms, school office, library, playgrounds and cafeteria.  Our teachers and staff look forward to getting to know you.  If you can find at least an hour of free time, consider volunteering to work on campus or with the PTA.  I look forward to a great year.

With Aztec Pride,

Mark Atkins

Hassle Free Fundraiser Update

Many, many thanks to all the AB families who have donated to this year’s Hassle Free Fundraiser thus far!   To date, 131 families have donated $10,539 to Hassle Free!  That’s 100% of our goal of $10,500 contributed by only 42% of our families!   Thank you for stepping up to the plate in this economy.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

That being said, I would like to encourage all families who are able, but have not yet contributed, to contribute.  While we are encouraging a $60 donation per child we welcome any amount no matter how small.  Your donations to Hassle Free will help support many of the existing PTA programs which have become a beloved tradition of students and their families at Adobe Bluffs including: AB Games, Winter Jamboree, Mileage Club, Arts Attack and Art Show, Dad’s Lunch, Science Day, Celebrate Diversity Day, plus many more!

These programs are part of what makes Adobe Bluffs such a great place for our kids to learn. On behalf of our kids, thanks so much!

Please contact Krissa Jensen at krissa.jensen@sbcglobal.net if you have any questions.

Red Ribbon Week October 19-23

“Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena.” (US Drug Enforcement Administration)

For parents, read more about the history of Red Ribbon Week.

For AB students, start thinking about what you like to do in your free time.  Are you listening to music, finding new ways to reuse cans and cardboard, earning the next karate belt?  During Red Ribbon Week you’ll have the chance to let all of Adobe Bluffs know how you spend your free time as part of your pledge to live a drug-free life.

Do you want to be part of Red Ribbon Week?

  • Before Red Ribbon Week volunteers are needed to assemble posters, package materials, and cut ribbons; no art experience required.  We will meet once in the beginning of October from 1-2pm, date to be announced.
  • During Red Ribbon Week volunteers are needed on Tuesday and Wednesday during lunchtime (11:15-12:15) for a book drive and mileage club.

Have questions or want to volunteer?  Contact PTA Red Ribbon Week Chair, Jennifer Good at jgoodcause@yahoo.com

PTA Reflections 2009 "Beauty is..."

Did you receive your PTA Reflections packet? The annual Adobe Bluffs PTA Reflections program is looking for some Aztecs to get in touch with their inner artist. This year the theme of the PTA Reflections program is “Beauty is…..” Where do you find beauty??? How can you share it with others? Get those creative juices flowing… Express what beauty is in whatever form inspires you!! Visual artists and photographers- capture a beautiful moment  in time. Creative writers tell us what beauty is. Musicians can compose an original tune as a celebration of beauty in music. Dancers and choreographers express themselves by striking poses and using movement to express the beauty in the world around them. Or direct a short film/play to show us what “Beauty is….”

The Reflections deadline is Friday October 23! Entries can be turned into the office. A limited amount of applications and rules can be found in the office. For complete rules, entry forms and previous Reflections winners check out the California PTA website or the Palomar Council website. Any other questions, contact AB PTA Reflections Chair, Jennifer Wright, wrijensd@yahoo.com, 858 484 -1496

Alert San Diego

Click here to register your VoIP, cellular telephone or email address.

The County of San Diego, in partnership with Twenty First Century Communications, Inc., has instituted a regional notification system that will be able to send telephone notifications to residents and businesses within San Diego County impacted by, or in danger of being impacted by, an emergency or disaster. This system, called AlertSanDiego, will be used by emergency response personnel to notify those homes and businesses at risk with information on the event and/or actions (such as evacuation) we are asking them to take. The system utilizes the region's 9-1-1 database, provided by the local telephone company(ies), and thus is able to contact land-line telephones whether listed or unlisted. It is TTY/TDD capable.

Because the system uses the 9-1-1 database, only land-line numbers are in the system. If you have a Voice over IP (VoIP) or cellular telephone and would like to be notified over that device, or if you would like an email notification, you must register those telephone numbers and/or email address for use by the system.

AlertSanDiego is for registering your cell phone, VoIP phone, and email address only. Listed and unlisted land line phones are already included in the database and do not need to be registered. Please contact AlertSanDiego or view the Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
