Volunteer

School Board Policy requires Poway Unified School District to conduct background clearances for all District volunteers. Parents with children in more than one school will only need to submit paperwork at one school site. Volunteers who are fingerprinted will only need to be fingerprinted once.

You are required by the Poway Unified School District to have the following items completed, processed and cleared before being allowed to work at the school. Click on the links for the various forms or available at the office.

Volunteer Application/Megan’s Law Background Clearance - one time
Tuberculosis (TB) Test - every four years
Volunteer Code of Conduct - annually
PTA Membership - You are encouraged, but not required, to become a member of the PTA

The TB Test is a two-step process and valid for 4 years. The district is currently providing free testing for your convenience or you may see your own physician or the Public Health Department (619-692-8661) to arrange for this mandated requirement. Our local CVS (on Twin Trails) also provides TB tests for $15* through their Minute Clinic. See the CVS website for more details. Should you need to have one administered or renewed, see the district TB schedule. If attending one of the free clinics, obtain a “volunteer verification form” from the office to present at the testing facility.

By Board Policy, there will be two levels of volunteers:

Level I Volunteers are those who work under direct supervision and in the presence of a teacher or district employee. The clearance for Level I volunteers will be done through the “Megan’s Law” database at the local sheriff’s department.

Level II Volunteers are those who may have the opportunity for significant unsupervised contact with students in the course of volunteering. Level II volunteers will complete the requirements for Level I and will be fingerprinted so that they may be cleared through the California Department of Justice.

A Volunteer Site Transfer Request is available for those individuals who have volunteered at another school within the district.

Please complete all documents listed above and return to the school office promptly to begin the verification process.

There are many activities planned for the upcoming year that benefit from parent volunteers and are rewarding for volunteers, staff, and students alike. Below is a brief list of programs, events, fundraising and supported services that PTA coordinates with a very brief glimpse of what they are about.
