PTA President's Message

Recently, I’ve received some questions regarding the cost of PTA Membership and why Adobe Bluffs PTA has to pay $5.10 of each $10.50 membership collected to the higher levels of PTA (Palomar Council PTA, Ninth District PTA, State PTA, National PTA).  If you are a member of Adobe Bluffs PTA, you are also a member of each of the above PTA’s.  The main reason we have to forward them a portion of your membership dues is because these PTA’s do not actively fundraise.  They rely on us to provide them with most of the money they need to advocate for our children.

For more than a century, PTA has reminded our nation of its obligations to children and provided resources and important information to parents and teachers. Whenever young people’s education, health, safety, or well-being were threatened, PTA members were and are on the forefront of working to resolve those challenges.  PTA has been instrumental in the passage of important laws and guidelines that we sometimes take for granted today, such as:

  • Creating a separate criminal justice system for juvenile offenders

  • Enforcing child labor laws

  • Building Kindergarten into the public school system

  • Supplying federally funded hot-lunches — that feed more than 26 million children a day.

  • Supporting school bus safety regulations

  • Creating the content-rating system for television programs — yes, PTA supported the creation of that ratings indicator you now see in the upper-left corner of your TV screen.

Many of these concerns may not have been addressed if PTA members did not take up the cause!  If you have become a PTA member, thank you!  If you have not, it’s never too late to join and show your support.  Forms are available on the Adobe Bluffs PTA website.

Thank you for your donations from ABEF

On behalf of the Adobe Bluffs Educational Foundation, I would like to thank all of the families who donated toward our initial drive this year.  We are so lucky to have your support now and throughout the school year.  Already this year the Foundation has funded the P.E. teacher, the impact teacher, and the computer resource assistant.  None of these things would be possible without our wonderful Adobe Bluffs families.  If you have not done so already please remember to donate.  Every little bit helps and really adds up.

Sincerely,

K.C. Hellenkamp

Adobe Bluffs Educational Foundation President

AB Foundation's Rubio's Fundraisers

First Rubio’s Night – Saturday, October 29, 2011

We had a great level of participation in our restaurant fundraisers last year, earning over $1,200 total, which was put to good use to help pay for salaries of Teacher Aides who do so much for our students.  Special thanks to all parents who came to our end of year Pat and Oscar's fundraiser, and to Pat & Oscar for supporting us.  We made $237!

This year, we are holding a series of Rubio's Fundraisers.  Thanks to Rubio's, we hope to help pay for the annual licensing cost of Compass Learning.  This computer software has been an invaluable tool for teachers and parents to help prepare students for MAPS testing.

Below, please find the dates of our upcoming Rubio’s Fundraisers.  You may want to use the schedule to plan your parties, since the offer is good for dine in or take out!  Fliers will be sent out the week of each event.  Simply bring a flier to any of the three locations listed on the flier.  Any of the restaurants will give the AB Foundation 20% of the value of your transaction!

A Healthy Tip to Grow on…

Studies show that a nutritious lunch helps kids perform better in school but coming up with healthy back-to-school lunches that kids will eat can be challenging.  Make it fun and exciting.  Grab the cookie cutters and turn your ordinary sandwich into a star or dinosaur.  Kids love food in shapes.  Surprise them with different shapes throughout the week or better yet have them help you prepare it night before.
