Adobe Bluffs Principal's Message

Dear Adobe Bluffs families,

Adobe Bluffs is continuing our focus on literacy by encouraging students to read for pleasure each night as a part of our Aztec Reading program. As you know, the benefits of reading for children and adults are tremendous.  Research shows that reading helps in almost every area of learning. Those that read have higher GPA’s, higher intelligence, and general knowledge than those that don’t.  Analytical thinking is also boosted by reading. Readers improve their general knowledge, and more importantly are able to spot patterns quicker. If you can spot patterns quicker, your analytical skills receive a boost. It’s no secret that reading increases your vocabulary and improves your spelling, but did you know that reading increases your vocabulary more than talking or direct teaching? Reading forces us to look at words that we might not have seen or heard recently.

We created the Aztec Reading Program to encourage our students to read each night.  Every student who reads more than 6 hours by February 27th will be eligible to submit their reading log to “Six Flags Read to Succeed” for a free ticket to Six Flags theme park.  The reading logs will need to include your email address. Please initial it to verify they have read for the time recorded. We will keep a school wide tally to see if we can beat last year’s record. Happy Reading!

Thank you,
Mark Atkins

Test results will be sent to the student’s home in a STAR Student Report in late August. Individual results are confidential and will be shared only with parents/guardians, the students, and the student’s teacher.

STAR Program reports provide valuable information about your child’s academic achievement. The results are also used to compute our school’s Academic Performance Index (API) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status and rankings.  We expect all students to participate.  Non-participation requires a written request from the student’s parent/guardian.

Parent Information Night for Transitional Kindergarten 2012-2013

6:30 pm Thursday, March 29th

Painted Rock Elementary School

In accordance with the Kindergarten Readiness Act, students who turn 5 between November 1st and December 2nd will be enrolled in a Transitional Kindergarten Program.  In addition to offering Transitional Kindergarten to the required students under the Kindergarten Readiness Act, PUSD will also allow students with birthdays between June 1st and October 31st to enroll in the Transitional Kindergarten Program.

Transitional Kindergarten is offered at several schools within our District.  Placement in Transitional Kindergarten is offered first to students according to the following priority:

  1. Students who turn five between November 1st and December 2nd living within the attendance boundaries of the school offering Transitional Kindergarten.

  2. Students who turn five between November 1st and December 2nd who do not live within the attendance boundaries of a school offering Transitional Kindergarten.

  3. Students who turn five between June 1st and October 31st living within the attendance boundaries of the school offering Transitional Kindergarten.

  4. Students who turn five between June 1st and October 31st who do not live within the attendance boundaries of a school offering Transitional Kindergarten.

Parents wishing to transfer their child into a Transitional Kindergarten class MUST notify their home school at the time of enrollment.  Your home school will then place your child on the transfer list.  Beginning June 1, the assigned Transitional Kindergarten school site will notify parents on the transfer list of an opening in Transitional Kindergarten.  The parent will then be given 48 hours to enroll.

Students that participate in Transitional Kindergarten will be attending school daily on the half-day kindergarten schedule.  They will also be eligible for Extended Student Services (ESS) for before and after school care.
